Jeans for Genes Day is fantastic for so many reasons. And, yes I am writing this blog whilst wearing my trusty denims and official Jeans for Genes Day pin.

Have you heard of Rebecca Minkoff? If not, then let me give you a bit of background, and if you have then sorry bear with me for a min. I saw my first Rebecca Minkoff handbag a number of years ago when I was shopping up a storm in Hawaii. The brand is so big that it’s made its way into stores such as Nordstorm, Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue just to name a few AND is in hundreds of boutiques worldwide. Rebecca’s pieces have also attracted a celebrity following in Blake Lively, SJP, Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan.

I absolutely love that she has done her bestseller Mac in a Mini version – Mini Mac. The leather is so soft and the blue shade is vibrant. The solid antique silver chain and hardware make this bag work.

The perfect bag for any jeans!

Rebecca Minkoff is available at one of my favourite online retailers www.HoneyHoney.com.au

Yours in handbags,

Satchels have had a makeover and lots of our favourite brands have put the sexy in satchel and bought it back (Cue JT song)! I have seen many many many satchels that I love including the Savanna Satchel by Witchery that I blogged last week.

One of my favourite Aussie designers Sarah Conners, has the Tender Ines Satchel in her latest range which of course I love! The Ines Satchel has the practicality of a school satchel and it’s roomy enough to fit folders, notebooks or a laptop. When I was at school (ok, yes it was a while ago now!) there was nothing as cool as this to lug my Jonny Depp graffitied folders around in! AND, this Cerise colour (pictured) is fab too.

I recommend checking out Sarah’s other bags as there are some great styles in her range.

Fringes – I think you are either a lover or a hater. Me – I’m a lover. I have a fringe (hair that is) and my new Byron Fringe Bag by Naomi Levi has just arrived. Trust me when I say this offer was tooooo good to turn down! I purchased it for a steal via Cherry Pick Me (one of those deal websites).

If you have been to Byron I’m sure you’re like me and fall in love instantly. I mean, what is not to like when you are surrounded by natural beautiful country side? And, the Byron Bag has that natural beauty.

When I opened my package I was hit with that ‘new’ leather smell. Don’t you just love that smell? The bag is made from gorgeous leather that will soften and improve with age. I like the fact that the fringing is subtle. I know I said I ‘like’ but I think less is more in the case of fringing. Agreed? I love the clean finished lines of the dark thread stitching too, which you probably can’t see on the photo. Having this adds a nice contrast to the bag.

Virr is all about bringing aspects of the old days back, and making them new again.

The Repository is a unisex carry all that is big enough to house enough ‘essentials’ for 2 days or 2 weeks with its deep buttoned interior base, large securing belt and secret pocket.

All pieces are lovingly handmade making them rugged, raw and truly unique as no two pieces will be the same.

Ahhh with a carry all/weekender this gorgeous, I think I would find myself motivated to take more trips!

I am loving how they have dressed up this classic tote design by the contrast stitching, two external zippers and the brushed gold hardware. AND check out those fabulous handles!

Ok, I must admit that my BF is called Vanessa so the bag has that going for it too! And, yes I am still waiting for someone to release a handbag called Amanda!

I have a couple of pouches, my newest by Estilo Emporio which I love, but this Viking Day Pouche by Mimco came across my desk and I really like it.

The pouches design is a sack-like silhouette that rests atop a flat base. The ones I have and the one pictured by Mimco are in a super soft buttery leather which makes them comfy to carry around on your shoulder, and because they are generally smaller in size, you can’t lug around bulky heavy items. Bonus!

It comes in 3 different colours, Black, Khaki and Mustard which is my favourite. Mustard is a great colour to wear in winter and adds a pop of colour to any outfit.

Welcome to The Handbag Blog, and my very first entry.

Firstly, a bit about me: my name’s Amanda George and I’m a self-confessed bag-a-holic, bag junkie, tote addict… there are many more names I can think of but basically I LOVE bags.

My obsession started from a young age when I fell in love with my mum’s Glomesh clutch. Perhaps it was the shimmery gold mesh that caught my eye but from the moment I saw it, it never left my side.

Unfortunately my first love didn’t stand the test of time and was sadly buried. But not long after her funeral I found myself another bag and this was the beginning of the obsession that would lead me to own more than 100 handbags, and create a product that took the hassle of changing handbags away. In 2008 I launched Borne Naked – a chic clear handbag liner that allows women to easily and quickly change from one handbag to another without having to transfer contents individually (my own dreams were answered)!

Okay enough about me, it’s time to get down to bag business…

I was walking past my local Witchery store, on a mission to find sugary rich foods (yes 3pm cravings had kicked in) and this satchel stopped me in my tracks.

Satchels have made a comeback of late and I for one am thrilled. I just think they look cool.

What I love about the Savanna Satchel from Witchery is the contrasting colours. The tan, black and white looks fresh and can easily take you through from winter to summer. Also, I love the fact that the entire bag is not leather. The main body is linen and the black and tan trims are in leather. Word of warning, white linen is hard to keep clean so this bag would best be used when you know you won’t have to put it on the ground.

To find out more visit www.witchery.com.au

Yours in handbags,
